We are pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Sho Kumamoto, a ceramic artist based in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture. This marks his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in four years and his first exhibition at HULS Gallery Tokyo. Kumamoto began his career creating porcelain works as the second-generation head of Akamizugama. After a major turning point, he changed his material to Karatsu clay and established the style he is known for today. Using a wide range of techniques, including vibrant sansai (three-colored) glazes, wheel throwing, and katauchi (mold-pressing) technique, he creates pieces that blend seamlessly and comfortably into everyday life. This exhibition will feature a selection of works available for purchase, including sansai and white-glazed tableware, as well as his popular mugs and cups. It will also introduce his new teaware created especially for this exhibition. We invite you to experience Kumamoto’s latest scenery, born from his continued exploration of clay and glaze through constant trial and discovery.
