HULS Gallery Tokyo is pleased to present the third solo exhibition by ceramic artist Hiroshi Taruta. Alongside his assured wheel-throwing and carving techniques, Taruta’s work is shaped by an inventive spirit nourished through a wide range of experiences and encounters, as well as an enduring curiosity toward the act of making itself. At the heart of his practice as a ceramic artist is an unwavering foundation, forged through years of dedicated exploration and accumulated mastery. This exhibition features the “Shiro to Ao no” series, in which he returns to his origins while challenging new modes of expression, as well as rare works fired in a traditional wooden fire kiln, where natural kiln effects create richly varied surfaces. We invite you to experience his work as it stands today—an evolving practice marked by both reflection and forward momentum.
