Masahiro Sakakura and Takao Tahara were born into families of potters who have been creating Fukawa-Hagi for generations in Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Sakakura expresses his Hagi ware by drawing out the individuality of the local clay, while Tahara is inspired by the charm of old Hagi ceramic fragments. In this exhibition, the two artists present their own reinterpreted Hagi ware, showcasing a new beauty through their distinct perspectives. While their works may appear fresh and novel, the essence of Hagi ware, renowned for its tea ceramics and originating from the official kiln of the Hagi domain, is deeply embedded in the core of their creations. This is Hagi ware at the forefront of its 360-year history. We invite you to witness it firsthand.
