HULS Gallery Tokyo is proud to present our new arrivals, showcasing refreshing tea wares recommended for the summer season.

From Tokoname in Aichi Prefecture, we introduce tea wares with light colors of white and silver hues that embody a different flavor in comparison to the red clay, which is more commonly associated with traditional Tokoname ware. Cups and spouted bowls made by Hiroshi Taruta, a potter who lives in Aichi Prefecture, are to be displayed for the first time in our gallery. His work embraces a clear and refreshing appearance, crafted using a technique called “Hotarude” (meaning firefly), achieved by slicing thin incisions on the clay surface and applying clear glaze to the delicate slits before firing. From Arita’s acclaimed manufacturer, Riso Porcelain, we present “houhin” (meaning treasure jar and is a type of teapot without a handle) and teacups made of white porcelain featuring finely hammered textures. Though simple in appearance, they allow you to feel the beauty of handmade products. Also from Arita, are cups from the “Egg Shell” series with translucent porcelain that allows light to pass through, and confectionary plates of cool and pale blue colors. Lastly, from Takaoka, a copperware production area, we present copper cups and coasters to enjoy cold drinks and ice cream.

We look forward to your visit.
