“The Use and Charm of Lacquer” – Lacquer Artisan Takao Togashi Solo Exhibition

We are pleased to announce an exhibition featuring the works by Takao Togashi, the third generation of “Nushi Ichitomi,” who was born and raised in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture. Togashi has created new lacquerware that conveys the charm of lacquer, using techniques such as “Aizu Tamamushi-nuri,” which shines like the wings of a “tamamushi” (jewel beetle), as well as “Shibuichi-nuri” and “Tetsusabi-nuri,” which express a metallic texture. This time, he has further expanded the boundaries of lacquer by incorporating “Leather texture” and “Bekko-nuri”. In this exhibition, we will showcase a variety of works of tableware and art pieces that combine beauty with functionality. We invite you to immerse yourself in the whimsical creations of Togashi.
