Connecting the Circles of Wajima Exhibition
It will soon mark one year since the Noto Peninsula earthquake struck on New Year’s Day 2024, a disaster that caused significant damage to the crafts manufacturers in Wajima featured at HULS Gallery. In September, torrential rains in Oku-Noto further impacted the already-affected areas, placing the tradition of Wajima lacquerware at a critical juncture.
This exhibition will showcase and offer for sale a selection of products from four Wajima-based companies striving to rebuild. Among the highlights are a series of Wajima lacquerware created as a part of a reconstruction project following the earthquake, as well as trays and small plates that highlight the natural beauty of wood. This two-week event provides an opportunity to experience the heartfelt allure of lacquer and wood while fostering and expanding the connections within the production area. Visitors are warmly invited to attend.
