Born in Ehime, Iwasa trained in Bizen and Shigaraki before establishing his own kiln in Izumo, where he continues his creative practice while also serving as the head priest of a temple. His works in <em>totai-shikki<\/em> (ceramic lacquerware), a technique in which lacquer is applied to ceramic bodies, layered with silver foil, and then fired, possess a distinctive metal-like texture. The serene yet taut expressions of the silver surfaces evoke the modest and sometimes austere natural landscapes of the San\u2019in region. This exhibition features a diverse selection of works, including silver flower vases as well as tea and sake ware.
