DESCRIPTION:\nFrom 1st (Tue) to 21st (Mon) October, HULS Gallery Tokyo will hold a special exhibition of Kokura Shima Shima, a Kokura-ori brand from Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture. In this exhibition, we will showcase the new collection of Kokura Shima Shima as well as exhibit the hand weaving works by Ms. Noriko Tsuiki, an artist who also oversees the textile designs of Kokura Shima Shima.\nThe new collection for 2019 consists of 4 patterns and this will be the only opportunity to view them in Tokyo.\nPlease enjoy these stripes that add vibrancy to your lifestyle.\n“The New Collection 2019 / From Noriko Tsuiki’s Textile Studio”\nExhibition Venue: 1st October (Tue) – 21st October (Mon) 2019 *”From Noriko Tsuiki’s Textile Studio” can be seen until 4th November (Mon)\n10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. *Closed on Sundays and public holidays\nExhibition Venue: HULS Gallery Tokyo (Akasaka, Tokyo)\n“Roots and Touch – Cherish the Texture of Kokura-ori -“\nExhibition Venue: 23th October (Wed) – 4th November (Mon) 2019\n10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. *Closed on Sundays and public holidays\nExhibition Venue: HULS Gallery Tokyo (Akasaka, Tokyo)\nHeld from 23th October (Wed) to 4th November (Mon) during the “ELLE DECOR DESIGN WALK 2019” and sponsored by an interior magazine “ELLE DECOR”. This is an experiential exhibition where you can touch and feel the striped fabric.\nKokura-ori from Kitakyushu is strong and increases its luster and age beautifully as you use it. Through this tradition and touch, we will convey the heart of cherishing things for a long time.\nA gallery talk titled “Kokura-ori and Furoshiki (wrapping cloth) workshop” presented by Ms. Mio Tsuiki, a senior managing director of Kokura Shima Shima Inc., will start at 2:00 p.m. on 26th October (Sat).\nYou will be introduced to the history and features of Kokura-ori, and you can also learn how to wrap a furoshiki that is simple, stylish and useful for daily use and as gifts. Please feel free to join us.\n– Noriko Tsuiki / Profile\n1952 Born in Kita-kyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan.\n1974 Withdrew from Waseda University, School of Humanities and Social Sciences.\n1984 Succeeded in revitalizing Kokura Stripes.\n2008 Awarded the 42nd Japan Traditional Craft Dyeing and Weaving Exhibition, Commissioner for Cultural Affairs prize.\n2014 Exhibition “Noriko Tsuiki – Stripes Today” at Kitakyushu Municipal Museum of Art.\n2016 Exhibited “Parabolic Stripes” at University of Milan, Milan Design Week 2016.\nA textile artist of Kokura-ori. She was fascinated by the beauty of the Noh (a form of classical Japanese musical drama) costumes and entered the path of textile.\nShe succeeded in restoring Kokura-ori, which originated from her hometown, and has continued as a textile artist of Kokura-ori.\n– Kokura Shima Shima / Profile\nKokura Shima Shima Inc. was established in 1996 in Kokura of Kitakyushu City.\nThe company is responsible for the managing, planning and sales of Kokura Shima Shima, a brand which features sturdy and beautiful striped fabrics, and continuing to evolve to fit Kokura-ori into the modern lifestyle.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
